
The Challenge
That was the challenge VOVA Trailers brought to HebronSoft. The California startup wanted a fully connected Smart RV — not a trailer with a few linked devices, but a complete IoT environment where security, climate, energy, water, entertainment, and dozens of sensors operated through one platform, including when the vehicle was offline and far from reliable connectivity.
Covid-era supply chain disruptions delayed components throughout the engagement, and the physical product was still evolving as the software was being built.
So the team had to architect the system before they could touch much of the system.

The Engineering Bet
The obvious approach was to integrate devices one by one as they arrived — connect each sensor, each control system, each subsystem to the application individually. That approach would have been faster to start and slower to scale.
The engineering team designed a single architecture capable of becoming the digital backbone of the entire RV — an environment where any new sensor, control, or service could be added without rebuilding the system around every new piece of hardware. Because the platform had to serve a vehicle that did not yet fully exist, it had to be built to accommodate uncertainty from the start.
What We Built
The platform was built on ASP.NET Core, .NET IoT, Docker, MongoDB, MQTT broker, and a microservices architecture, running on AWS cloud infrastructure. At the hardware layer, the system was designed around Raspberry Pi with ZigBee, Z-Wave, I2C, and GPIO protocols. Angular and NgRx powered the web layer. Flutter provided a single codebase delivering native iOS and Android applications.
Motion detection · door opening alerts · glass breakage detection · GPS tracking system.
Smoke and fire detection · water and gas leak detection · tire pressure monitoring · water and electricity usage tracking with statistics and consumption predictions.
Lighting · sockets · curtains · cameras · climate · heating · multimedia — all controlled from mobile. Temperature · humidity · air quality · altitude · atmospheric pressure monitored continuously. Battery level · electricity generation and usage tracked in real time.
Owner — full platform access. Family members — monitoring and control. Rent mode — restricted permissions for rental scenarios. Support — remote assistance access.
The platform works without an internet connection. Core monitoring and control remain operational offline — a practical requirement for a vehicle that spends time far from reliable connectivity.
VOVA Trailers arrived with an idea and no hardware. HebronSoft delivered an IoT architecture capable of supporting a real, connected product.
But that is only half of this case.
The Origin Story
In 2012, American entrepreneur Robert Colucci tried to adopt a Ukrainian orphan named Vova. The adoption did not happen.
Years later, Robert discovered that Vova had graduated from Hebron IT Academy — one of two campuses, in Lviv and Kyiv, built to give young people without means or access a real path into engineering.
The Academy was founded in 2016 — before the company itself existed — because HebronSoft co-founder Liliya Valihun sold her share in a Silicon Valley startup to fund it. Over 500 people have trained through the Academy since.
When Robert learned what HebronSoft stood for — that every client project funds the academy, that the mission and the business are inseparable — he chose HebronSoft as his exclusive technology partner.
And he named the company after Vova.
VOVA Trailers.
The company carrying that name was engineered by HebronSoft — the technology company whose commercial work funds the academy where Vova built his future.
The Ecosystem
HebronSoft solves commercial engineering problems. That work generates revenue. That revenue sustains an ecosystem built to create impact beyond the delivery.
Two IT Academy campuses — in Lviv and Kyiv — develop engineers from among orphans, veterans, and youth who had no prior access to technology education. The Innovation Lab gives ideas that have no commercial home yet the engineering resources to become real products — among them Re-Band, a wearable rehabilitation device for people waiting for a prosthesis, developed alongside veterans who understood the problem firsthand.
The Think Tank captures what the team learns from working across industries and turns it into shared knowledge. People Programs include the Hansen × Hebron campus in Kyiv, inside a residential community built for Ukrainians displaced by the war.
Commercial engineering funds the academies. The academies give young people access to engineering education they would not otherwise have. The Innovation Lab turns ideas from within the ecosystem into real products that address real human problems — among them Re-Band, a rehabilitation device for people waiting for a prosthesis, and Pocket AI Therapist, a tool that helps people navigate symptoms before they reach a specialist. And the products create new knowledge and new relationships — feeding the next cycle.

2012 — Robert tries to give one Ukrainian orphan a different future.
Years later — Vova graduates from Hebron IT Academy.
2021 — Robert finds HebronSoft through Vova. Names the startup after him.
HebronSoft — delivers the IoT platform for VOVA Trailers.
The commercial work — funds the academy that helped Vova, and the next student after him.
